Why ‘wingnut’ is a poor word choice
Right-wing Republicans and other conservatives don’t engage in racist, misogynistic, homophobic, ableist, classist, etc. tactics because they’re ‘nuts’. They do it as part of a well-thought-out, coordinated, and terrifyingly effective strategy to gain and maintain power, wealth, and privilege.
To suggest that their tactics are ‘crazy’ implies that only a few extremists think/feel/behave this way. But the truth is that these despicable policies are at the heart of the current Republican agenda.
Also, ‘wingnut’ is an ableist slur that perpetuates the oppression of people with mental, mood, and neurological disabilities. Let’s not further stigmatize a group of people who are already disproportionately harmed by conservative policies.
